Today's workout:
Bike-183 minutes
Run-19 minutes
Swim-30 minutes
What a beautiful day. It was about 51 degrees when we started biking at 9 am and about 60 something degrees when we finished the swim at 3 pm. Six hours of working out today, including changing clothes and driving to the pool. And this was nothing compared to when we get into February, March, and April! We'll be working out all day and most of the evening on Saturdays!
Here's the route we biked today, courtesy of Wayne's handy dandy iPhone app.
It is so cool how I can put the actual interactive map right here in the blog!
We did 44 miles at a 14.2 mile pace. Nice zone one. The course elevation today is very close to the actual race course elevation.
We made a new friend today. We were at about mile four of our ride when a solo rider joined us and started talking to Wayne. He stayed with us until I went the wrong way and we had to turn around- I asked if he was going to join us for the ride and he said sure! His name is Hugo and he's training to be an APD officer. He has his cadet training this Spring. He's also signed up for his first triathlon, The Rookie, this Spring. So he biked the entire way with us. He said he'd like to join us again next week.
On today's ride we were talking about articles from the most recent copies of Runner's World and Triathlete magazines. (Wayne also reads a UK triathlete magazine called "Triathlete"-make sure you're saying it with the English accent-it's totally different than the Texas "Triathlete" magazine which is said with a slight twang.)
I was sharing about a race in North Carolina called "The Krispy Kreme Challenge". I found a you tube video with a news report about the race. Here it is:
In case you don't feel like watching the video, (but you should watch it, it's pretty funny), the race is a four mile run. Runners have to run two miles to the Krispy Kreme donut store, eat a dozen glazed donuts, and then run two miles back to the finish line. I said that I couldn't possibly do that. Not with Krispy Kreme donuts. But make it a Ken's Donut race and I'd be all over it! I can easily put back six Ken's without a second thought. Twelve might be a little more of a challenge, but I think I'd give it a shot.
So here's where the story gets gross. Wayne, after saying that the Krispy Kreme race sounded like Heaven on Earth, asked it there was McDonalds race, where you ran two miles, ate a dozen burgers, and then ran back. He said that it would be, and I quote, "lovely" on the return trip to "burp up the hamburgers and enjoy the taste all over again." I have dubbed this race, Macca's Macca Run. Don't sign me up for this one.
I had to shift gears to pull ahead of him after that. The thought of it was making my stomach queasy. I don't know if Hugo will be wanting to ride with us after that conversation. Plus I think I burped at least three times when I was riding beside him. Welcome to riding with the Macca/Beer clan. Classy, that's us!
After the run we changed, got the pups, and went out for our regular 18-20 minute run up to Central Market. I think I've said it before, but I'm so glad that we run after almost every bike ride. It's good to practice that transition.
Then off to the gym for a swim. Nice and relaxing today. Had the pool mostly to myself. The water temp has been so lovely since the heater's been fixed. (Not "lovely" like burped up hamburgers, but "lovely" like wrapping up in a nice warm blanket.) I forgot my crocs today. I could practically see the gross little fungus dude from the Lamisil commercial crawling all over my feet.
I know it's only about a week since the winter solstice, but it already seems like the days are getting longer. Yea!
I can't believe that tomorrow marks the end of four weeks of training. Incredible!
TTFN,
M :)
