Ok, not quite all of that's true, but it sure feels like it! The first two paragraphs are completely true. And Bonnie's the only one I know who's ever cross country skied six miles!
The weather today was perfect. A little on the chilly side, but we dressed ok so we were warm enough. We had a great 55 mile ride out to the old Longhorn Half Ironman stomping grounds. We rode out there so I adjusted the Longhorn route accordingly so we ended up with 55 total. The sky was completely blue and there was no wind. The temp started at 38 and went up to 60 or so. There was a slight difference of opinion on how to dress for today's ride. Here's an example:
Kristi and I each had three layers on top and full length tights. Wayne thought it was summer and wore shorts and a short sleeve shirt! Wayne said he started off a little cold but that he was perfectly ok for most of the ride! Crazy Aussie! Kristi and I must just be cold-blooded. Heehee!
We turned onto one road and Kristi asked me if the road was on the Longhorn course or not. I said I couldn't remember, but I did remember a story about that road. Last year sometime, there was a group of us out biking along that road and Todd and I were behind everyone else, just chatting. All of a sudden we see a crazy dog come chasing out at us so we both go into a sprint and speed past Bonnie and the other people. Bonnie says, "What's the rush?" and I yelled, "DOG"!!!! So then everyone sprinted too! So today I said, I think we're coming up to the dog house. But we didn't see the dog. Until about a minute later when I hear a blood curdling scream from Kristi-the dog had totally stealthed up on us and was barking crazy right at Kristi's leg! We sped up and tried to outrun it. But luckily there seemed to be an electric fence on the property and the dog seemed content enough to run along side us and just scare us instead of having one of us for lunch!
If you've never heard Kristi scream at a dog, a snake, or a spider, you've never heard anyone really scream. It definitely gets your heart rate going!!!!
At our rest stop today I found something for Bonnie.
Caribia and Cheyenne came along for the run as always. My calves were real tight at the beginning but they loosened up eventually.
Then I took about an hour break and had a bowl of cereal and a chocolate milk. Then headed to the gym. For some reason this week says to do a 30-45 minute swim, but every other weekend throughout the training says 30 minutes. So I did the minimum. Nice and slow. Slower than normal if that's possible. Sort of like a cross between a turtle and a snail. If snails could swim.
I had a nice surprise while swimming. I got to the end of the lane and Chris was there! It's so awesome to see him when I'm tired on a workout-it gives me motivation and energy to finish the workout. He's been so wonderful and supportive-making sure that I'm eating and sleeping ok. What a great family I have.
When I got home I did yoga. I didn't do it last night and I know I need to do it at least twice a week, like Macca says. So I did that, and now I'm finally on the couch chillin' with the pups.
Brad introduced me to Lara Bars today. Really simple ingredients. The one he had was Coconut Creme flavor and it was delicious. I'm going to get some and try them on the bike ride to see how easily I can digest them. I'm still on the hunt for the right combo of food to eat while training and then of course in the race. We're supposed to practice eating different things to see what works the best. I overheard Wayne say that he's trying every type of bar, goo, and gel under the sun to see what works best for him.
Chris just went to pick up dinner. I'm going to have a nice tofu stir-fry from Mother's tonight. I figured I need some tofu protein tonight after the day I've had!
Later gators!
M :)
