Swim: 85 minutes
Chaos In Your Den: 20 Minutes
Today was awesome. Kristi signed up for a free 14-day guest pass to my gym so she came swimming with me tonight to help me with the drills! It was like having my own personal coach! I figured out that the drills I have been doing are geared more towards the professional breaststroke swimmer and not towards someone swimming breaststroke for 2.4 miles. Here are the drills that I'm going to do on a regular basis now:
1. I Dream Of Jeanie drill-You put your arms one on top of the other, like the tv show genie, and then you swim with the regular froggie kick.
2. Keep your arms by your side and then do the regular froggie kick.
3. Opposite arm/leg drill-right arm moves and left leg moves for three strokes, then switch to left arm and right leg for three strokes.
4. Dolphin kick-Do the regular stroke with your arms and then do a dolphin kick instead of the froggie kick.
5. Use the pool buoy to isolate your arms
6. Separation drill-Do an arm stroke with your legs straight, then keep your hands by your side while you do the regular leg kick. Then do it again and again.
7. Do the regular stroke, but stay under water for two complete strokes, then take a breath and repeat.
I've taken the opportunity to rename the drills so that I can remember them more easily. Here they are again with more appropriate names:
1. The Sink Face First In the Water drill
2. The Drink Three Cups of Water per Length-Inhale Some Through your Nose Too for Maximum Benefit drill
3. The Pray No One is Watching Me drill
4. The Who Knew My Arms Could Hurt So Much drill
5. The Get a Rash on your Legs drill
6. The Easiest Drill on the List drill
7. The Oh My God I Can Barely Breath drill
I feel much more confident about my Monday drill workouts now, thanks to Coach Kristi!
After swimming we went back to my house to do Zen In Your Den. Well, the pups were in fine form-with at least five minutes of a Welcome To The Beer Home bark fest, followed by joining Kristi for all the yoga moves. I gave Caribia a big bone, but then Cheyenne started barking at Caribia for the big bone. So I gave Cheyenne a little bone. Once that was gone, she started licking and jumping all over Kristi again. Then Chris started playing with his voice machine in the studio, making all kinds of funny distorted voices, saying funny things! It was so crazy Kristi asked, "Where is the zen?" Hahahahaha! I must say it was ok for me though, because instead of bothering me during yoga, they went for the new person! I should have Kristi over each time I do yoga so the pups leave me alone!
Yoga was good though, despite the chaos. I like the 20 minute program-short and sweet with good easy-to-understand poses.
Kristi finally caved in and called the doctor today. After suffering from some kind of cough, infection, sinuses mess for about three weeks, she finally saw the doc. What started as a little cough and slight cold, festered into a full blown chest/sinus/eye infection! Hopefully the horse pills that she's on will have her all cleared up in no time.
And poor Wayne. I wrote a limerick for you tonight, teammate.
There was was a chap called Wayne
Who went on a business trip to Spain
But when he arrived,
Of a gym he was deprived
Leaving him no where to train.
Here's the gym at the hotel he's staying at. Apparently the pool is about four feet long. At least he has nice weather! Kristi reported it's in the 70s where he is. Sure beats our high of 40 tomorrow!
And Bonnie is having fun tonight-she texted from "Third and Long" which is the bar in Manhattan that is owned by the Matt Long, who was the Fireman/Ironman in the book we all read over break. She took a photo that I'll post tomorrow. Hopefully Matt will go to the bar tonight so we'll have a story to post with the photo!
Ok, time to work on the Fittest Dog application.
TTFN,
M :)
