Ride-61 minutes (13 miles)
Run-108 minutes (10 miles)
Weights-2 x 12
Wow, a whole month's training done already. That means only 20 more weeks until race day! I just finished reading "The Long Run" by Matt Long. That's the book I mentioned a few days ago-the NYC firefighter who was run over by a bus and made a come-back to run another marathon and an Ironman! Thanks for the recommendation Bonnie!
It was pretty chilly today-about 40 degrees for the ride and about 50 for the run. But there were barely any clouds in the sky and barely any wind. A perfect winter training day. We were only supposed to run 70-90 minutes, but we have the 3M Half-Marathon in January so we upped the mileage just a bit. We did the 10 mile loop around Town Lake. Probably one of my favorite 10 mile loop courses. Cheyenne came with us. She's such a great runner dog. She keeps great pace after she gets the initial energy out during the first mile. And luckily Kristi likes to talk when she runs. I told her today that it's like watching a movie while I'm running-time passes by much more quickly with her stories! As long as she doesn't expect me to respond as I try to keep up with her pace!
I've challenged Kristi to finish the half-marathon in 1 hour and 45 minutes. If she does, then we'll train for a sub 4-hour Chicago marathon. I know she can do the pace-especially at the 3M since it's all downhill. (Notice how I didn't say that I will also be doing the race in 1:45? I'm going for the 2:00 marker.)
Chris has been going to the gym a few times a week since we joined. He's getting really in shape. He told me that he'd been doing weights and some cardio. Well he was changing shirts this morning and I couldn't believe my eyes!
He's been doing some pretty serious weights! No wonder he asked Santa for larger shirts! Hahahaha! Mu hubbie-The Incredible Hulk!
Here's our ride route from this morning. Just our same old 13 miler.
The weights are going well-I'm surprised at how easy some of them are starting to feel. Granted I'm only at 5 lbs for some of them! Kristi is starting to feel that some of them are getting too light to. Wayne already upped some of his weights, so Kristi and I will up ours during week six, the next back week.
Well, vacation has been fun. Time to head back to work tomorrow. Now the real challenge begins. It'll be interesting to see how I feel adding an eight-hour work day into the training schedule! I've already packed my lunch, picked out my outfit, and packed my gym bag for the swim tomorrow night. Now if only I could shower from today's workout....our water is shut off right now. Long story involving upstairs renters kitchen sink leaking, the stopper being in place, renters on vacation, sink overflowing, water collecting in our kitchen ceiling until it couldn't take the pressure and collapsed at 3:30 in the morning last week.....Kitchen ceiling is fixed already, but the plumber has been here all day today fixing the sink upstairs-of course when the fixture was being replaced a faulty pipe was found-ah, the joys of owing a hundred-year-old house!
Thank goodness it's almost bedtime.
M :)
