Today's workout:
Swim-90 minutes
I decided not to swim today. My allergies are completely crazy. Snot is just dripping out as it pleases because I'm too stuffed up to sniff it back inside. I had to leave work to get another box of tissues because I went through an entire box. The kind with lotion because my nose is getting so raw. I have to sit with a tissue stuffed up my nose to stop the dripping. Thank goodness for Breathe Right strips. That's the only way I got any sleep last night. Those things work really well to keep my nasal passages open.
So I figured it would make more sense just to chill on the couch. But on my way home I stopped thinking of the reasons I shouldn't swim and started thinking about all the reasons I should swim. Every red light I hit was like a sign to tell me to not swim, to just go home. But I kept telling myself things like, "Only two more Monday night swims." and "You've come this far, don't quit fighting now." and You really, really need to practice swimming because you are a horrible swimmer." and "In three more weeks you never have to swim again if you don't want to."
I got to the final turn off for home before the gym, and still didn't know what I was going to do. It was almost automatic-the car just turned right towards the gym. So I figured I should give it a shot. And wouldn't you know it, once I started swimming I felt better than I had all day! I guess when the my blood got flowing my head and nose cleared up a little bit. It was either that or the snot just wasn't bothering me because it was going to straight into the pool and not down my face. I know that's really gross, but it's all part of the training, so I figured it belongs in the training blog.
I ended up having a really good swim. I felt strong the whole time. Not fast, just strong. At one point the girl in the lane next to me asked me if the pool was 25 meters or yards. I told her I can never remember, but I did know that 77 laps was 2.4 miles. She asked which Ironman I was training for. She said that her boyfriend had done lots of Ironman races and that she'd been to watch a bunch of them. She asked if I wanted a tip and I said of course! She told me not to rely on the Special Needs bag on the bike portion. She said that she has seen too many races where either the bags get lost, ripped, or handed to the wrong person. She said to be sure to pack all my essentials in my shirt pocket and on my bike. I'm glad she told me that because I was going to totally rely on that special needs bag for my food for the second half of the bike course! She also said to watch out for debris at the Special Needs Bag Section on the bike because people drop a lot of the stuff from their bag by accident, and bottles go rolling all over the street. I might just get off at that point, find my bag, refill my nuun drink, eat something, and get back on the bike after the Special Needs Section.
So I'm really proud of myself for swimming today. I've never been so close to bailing and then actually going. I'm glad I went. I'm glad I had a good swim. I felt like I needed that after my yucky Saturday.
The blog wouldn't be complete today without mention of the weather. It's like January. It hasn't gotten out of the 50s all day. It's overcast and drizzly. I'm so glad we're not exercising outside today. I really hate this weather!
I'm all tucked in on the couch now with a heating pad on my shoulders and hush puppies on my feet. (By hush puppies I mean Caribia and Cheyenne!) I'm going to take a sick day tomorrow to really recover and to run some errands. I'm feeling a little run down and work has been pretty crazy the last couple of weeks, so it'll be nice to have a day to myself.
That's all for now!
M :)
