And then there were nine.

Today's workout:
Bike-14 miles
Run-9 miles

We had a guest join us for our ride this morning...an honorary Ironman, who asked if he could be a Tinman. Chris came along! We had a nice chill ride, with two things happening within a minute of each other that never normally happen. The first thing was that there was a car at one of the intersections that we had to stop for, and there is never ever cars at that intersection. The second thing was that a light changed right when I pushed the button to cross Burnet. Chris was laughing because he said that we always say, "That never happens." But it was true today! And then a third thing happened...we had to wait forever to cross 45th street. It's not even that busy on a Wednesday evening, never mind a quiet Sunday morning!

After the run we all came inside to change for the run. I was changing in the bedroom and accidentally somehow stepped on a flip flop in just the right way that my big toenail ripped off the toe. I screamed dramatically of course and the dogs were very concerned. Chris came running and Kristi and Wayne came around the corner to see what was going on. Chris got the pups out of the way so I could inspect the toe, and sure enough, the gross toenail that has been featured in this blog before, was torn off the right side of the toe. It was still attached on the left side though. It was sticking up at a really odd angle. It was totally disgusting.

Once the initial drama and shock wore off, I had to cut it off. I was trying to hide the nail from Kristi though, because I wanted to save what was painted on my toe for today's blog! Chris painted an m-dot on my toe! He was going to re-do it this afternoon so it would look better, and I was going to put a photo of it on the blog. But instead she saw it when the nail was hanging off my toe! Not quite the debut that the cute m-dot toenail was going for.

After inspecting the nail, it was a pretty solid rip. No blood, just a bunch of nastiness. I was able to cut off the nail as a whole so I could save it for photos. Then I smothered the toe in neosporin, wrapped it up in band-aids, and headed out for our nine mile run. It was throbbing and a little sore, but I have two other toenails that are black so the shooting pain from those toes took some of the attention off the big toe nail.

The run was fine-it seemed to get 15 degrees cooler over the course of our 90+ minute run. The sun came out and the oven turned on. It was 87 degrees before we finished. Our house thermometer says it was 100 today. Probably closer to 97 in real life. Our thermometer sits almost in direct sunshine.

Here are some photos from the day.

Here is the toenail that was ripped off.

Here is the underside of the toenail. Caution-this is really gross, scroll down quickly if you don't want to see it.

Here is my other foot, with the black nail. Really painful.

And here is the big toe that lost the toenail. The pink part is what's left over after I cut off the part that's in the first picture. And the toe to the left of the big toe is the second toenail that's black. This one hurt more than the big toe during the run!

And finally, a cute photo of my toes for once. Complete with Chris's artwork!

Clearly I'm not the best pedicurist in the world, but there's no way I could force these toes on a professional. In fact, they might even quit the profession if they had to pedi these toes! Hahaha!

This afternoon was nice and chill. Chris and I walked to Spiderhouse for lunch and sat outside. It was nice and shady and the breeze helped keep us cool-ish. Just a taste of what's to come after the race. We'll be able to go out and eat in the middle of the afternoon if we want to, we can go to the Pecan Street Festival, we can go garage sale-ing on Saturday mornings!

My biggest emotion about the upcoming event is relief. I am so happy that the training is winding down. Not much left to do except prepare my mental plan for the day. Physically we've done everything we can do. We've done every workout in the training, and had some pretty tough weather to do it in. I have to trust that I'm physically ready for the event, and just make sure my mental piece is ready.

Time for a walk with Jenni and the pups now. And then another EBT.

M :)
