Swim-40 minutes
I can't tell you how happy I am that today was the last Monday swim for this training. I think I am more excited to never have to swim again than I am for the actual race! While I was swimming today I wrote a little poem. An ode to swimming. I think I wrote one at the beginning of the training. I'll have to go back to find that one and compare it to this one. Here goes....
Swimming I dislike you,
You give me a pain in my neck.
The only thing you are good for,
Is rehab after a wreck.
Some say you are relaxing, soothing, and fun,
I say bump that, I'd rather go for a run.
We've had this relationship,
It's been six months too long.
Time to trade in my swimsuit,
And play some ping pong.
I may yet again see the water,
But it'll be from a float.
The river by toob, the lake on a boat.
This triathlon training is just not my speed,
A little more resting is all that I need.
I can't say I'll miss you, or that I'll even be sad,
After this Saturday, I'll be nothing but glad!
And there it is. One last ode to swimming. This summer the only swimming I will be doing is putting my arms in the water to adjust my float so that I'm properly facing the sun. Or when the pups dump over the kayak and I have to swim to shore.
Yesterday I started working on my playlist for the drive down to the Woodlands. Here's what I have so far.
Kenny Chesney-Somewhere with you
T.I.-Live your life
Dixie Chicks-Cowboy take me away
DC-Wide Open Spaces
Zac Brown Band-Chicken Fried
ZBB-Knee Deep
ZBB-Whatever it is
Keith Urban-Without you
Bob Schneider-Come with me tonight
Cascada-Everytime we touch
Miranda Lambert-Heart like mine
Taylor Swift-Mean
Fugees-No woman no cry
B.o.B-Airplanes
Black Eyed Peas-Where is the love
I think I have room for a few more songs if anyone has any suggestions.
I bought my bananas today. The plan is for them to ripen to smoothie perfection during the week, so that come Saturday morning, they will make the most delicious smoothie ever. I'm going to get some of my food items before I leave town, just in case the HEB in the Woodlands doesn't carry that particular item. Then I have a list that I'm going to purchase once I get down there. Bagels, frozen strawberries, etc.
I am so looking forward to having a break from work. It will be so nice just to wake up whenever, to not have any plans or work to do, to do whatever I feel like whenever I feel like it-maybe see a movie, play a board game, go for a walk, look around at the mall.....this is going to be a fun week.
And yes, I'm looking forward to the race too. It will be extra exciting if the predicted thunderstorms come through on Saturday. It will be good to really try my hardest and see just how I do. With a race like this you just never know. I am going in with no time goals except the cut-off times. My main goal is to just enjoy the day, the cheering crowds, the bike and run routes, the weather (whatever Mother Nature has in store) my friends, and my family.
It's been a busy last few weeks, since I'm still at my regular job, but I'm being pulled to do a lot of prep work for my new position. I haven't really had the time, or let myself take the time, to enjoy the lead up to the race. I'm glad we're going down early. I want to get more excited for the race. I want to take in all the energy of the athletes. I want to explore a new little ritzy town. I want to go shopping at the Ironman store everyday, just like Bonnie recommends, in case they bring out new items.
And I want to finish the race. I really do want to finish. I'll be super disappointed if I don't, so I'm not going to think about that possibility unless it happens. Positive thinking from here on out.
I can do this. I know I can.
M :)
