Big Island Wind

Today's workout:
Swim-30 minutes
Bike-311 minutes (5:11:41)
Run-1.8 miles

Crazy, crazy winds today. They were 20-25 miles out of the south. So we headed south first. Here's part of the route.

The map shows the first 56 miles of the route. Unfortunately Wayne's chain broke today. Not sure how it happened. But he couldn't ride it anymore so Chris drove down to Creedmoor to pick him up. Thank goodness he was able to get him because we were another 24 miles from home!

The ride was good today-I really liked the route. Besides the wind. Bonnie said that it reminded her of the wind that is famous on the Kona Ironman course! I can't remember ever having such strong winds on a ride. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, except for when we were heading directly into it. When we were going east or west, we were still able to ride at a good pace.

It was a beautiful day other than the wind. It was in the 90s and sunny. My favorite temperature for bike riding. I had two favorite parts of the ride. Both were downhill for about a mile each, with the wind at my back. 26 mph without any effort at all! Finally the wind was working in my favor! Here's my favorite photo from today.

The swim was fine this morning-uneventful. I had the entire pool to myself for the entire swim except for the very last lap. It was nice and peaceful.

The run was nice and short. Only 1.8 miles today. That's because tomorrow is our longest run during the training. We're going for 18 miles. Hopefully my bones and toes will hold up. My toes always hurt so much from running once we get over 14 or so miles. My big toenail is still hanging on, barely.

I haven't been really hungry today, but I tried to keep eating. I just had some pasta for dinner and now I feel uncomfortably full. Ugh.

It's almost 9. Time for Law and Order and bed.

G'night!

M :)
