Today's workout:
Off
Walk with the pups.
If you haven't noticed, I've stopped doing yoga. I never really enjoyed it, and I think the ice baths are helping the most. I was only doing yoga for about 15-20 minutes anyway.
I slept pretty well last night, at least until 4:30 am that is. Then I was awake. Wide awake. With no hope of going back to sleep. So I did what anyone else who's training for an Ironman and pressed for time would do. I went grocery shopping! I had the whole store to myself for the most part. It's actually a great time to go shopping! I did get a little stressed at the checkout line though. You know there's always one person who's in front of you in the line who is getting a cart full of groceries and all you have is a quick breakfast item? Well, I was that person. And while I was checking out, the single-item-people were piling up behind me. There was only one check-out lane open because it was so early, so I was totally holding them up.
I was packing my groceries while the check-out lady was sending them down the conveyor belt at mock speed. And I don't like to pack my groceries all willy-nilly. I like to have cold items with cold items, box items with box items, and one bag for items that are easily smooshed. I like to stack the yogurts on top of each other in the bag in between other items so that they don't all fall over. Ask Chris, I'm a nightmare at the grocery store. I even have a system for placing items on the conveyor belt from the cart. I like to put a lot of little items together in the middle of the groceries to slow down the checker to give me more time to pack my groceries in an appropriate manner. Sometimes I even pack my own groceries when there is a bagger person, because I can't handle the anxiety of having potentially mis-bagged items. Sometimes I even get anxious when I see other people's groceries in plastic bags all piled up on top of each other. Just thinking about the smooshed bread, eggs, fruit......
So here I am, trying to pack my groceries in my ocd pattern, and the line is getting longer and longer behind me. The check-out lady offers to help, so I reluctantly hand her a bag. A box of cereal fell over in the bag I was packing so I had to slow down to re-adjust the cereal, leaving the checker lady time to pack bananas in the bottom of the bag she had. AGH!!!! My anxiety was sky-rocketing! When I took the bag from her I pulled out the bananas and put them on top of the bag of boxed items, where they belong.
Then I went to pay. I was sweating up a storm, even though it wasn't really hot in there. What a mess.
So what does all this have to do with training for an Ironman? It's all just part of the crazy world that exists outside the physical training. It's a sad state of affairs when you decided to grocery shop at 5 am because you can't think of another time to go! (I can't go in the evenings because I'm too tired and crowds make me almost as anxious as mis-bagged groceries!)
Wayne forwarded an email he received from a headhunter today. They want him to interview for the Chief Spokesperson Position at a restaurant chain. The restaurant is called the "Heart Attack Grill". They are looking for someone who can promote such exciting menu items including the 8,000 calorie Quadruple Bypass Burger, seen here...
and the Butterfat Shake and the Flatliner Fries. Wayne says he spoke with the headhunter and suggested the addition of the famous Turtle Burger to the menu. A basic burger, wrapped in bacon, with a hot dog for a head and legs, and then deep fried. As seen here...
The headhunter loved Wayne's idea so much they asked him to come in for a follow-up interview in person. Here's the website for his potential job, just in case things don't work out at Lifesize for him.

He was especially excited when they told him that Kristi could also get hired on as a nurse/waitress! And they told him he could base out of Austin to help get the Austin branch up and running!
This afternoon I sat on the back deck and read the new Runner's World. It was a beautiful afternoon. There was a house band playing on the next block over and they were really good. I felt like I was at SXSW in my own backyard. The leaves are starting to come out on the trees and the crepe myrtles are in bloom. I love March. The pups and I had a wonderful walk through Pease Park. It's such a nice walk, except for the two places we have to cross Lamar. I felt like I was in NYC. Honking, yelling, cars blocking intersections, screeching tires as cars almost rear-ended each other. The traffic was really crazy today. It's pretty cool how less than a block from Lamar we're in the woods, under the streets, away from all the craziness.
The forecast for tomorrow is rain and winds 20-40 mph. So we switched workout days. Tomorrow we will bike on the trainers, then run 12 miles, then do weights. Sunday we'll swim, bike, then run. It's going to be cold this weekend too. Let's see how the weathermen do this weekend. In the Spring, you just never know how accurate they'll be.
I took an ice bath tonight. I'm going to have to start double bagging it. The ice melted within four minutes. Our tub is warmer and the water is warmer, since the temperature outside is warmer than last month.
Needless to say, I'm exhausted since I've been awake for 15 hours already.
Time for an early bed.
M :)
