Bike-60 minutes
Run-about 70 minutes with stops, about 7 miles
Weights-2 x 15
Today was a beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky, 50 degree to start the ride, 75 degrees this afternoon. Back door is open, airing out the house. Dogs lounging in the sun on the back deck. This is my kind of winter. We're due for another round of extreme cold on Wednesday-low down to 22, but up to 55 that same day. Ah, Texas weather.
Sunday mornings are usually really chill, quiet rides. There's barely anyone out and about, the streets are mostly empty of cars and we can just stop briefly at the intersections and continue on without waiting for lights. But today was a whole other story! For some reason, all the bad drivers were out at once. The worst was on Shoal Creek. We were riding south and some man was driving north. He decided to turn left onto a street just as we were passing the street. It was as if we were invisible. We all started yelling and slammed on our brakes. I think it went something like this:
Scene: Man begins to turn and doesn't stop. We are slamming on our brakes.
Kristi: "Hey! Watch out!"
Wayne: "Crikey mate! That bloke has a few roos loose in the top paddock!"
Mary: "What the *&$%! Who does that &%#$!@* think he is! It's amazing that %##$*!*&^ like him can get a license!"
Hahahaha! We were all ok though. Just a little bit of excitement on an early Sunday morning.
The other bit of excitement on the ride was that an ESPN broadcaster joined us for a mile or so. Kristi began talking about the Super Bowl like she was Chris Berman. (I had to look up a famous NFL broadcaster because I know nothing about the NFL other than it's football.) So Kristi says, "You know the whole Roethlisberger thing..." (assuming I knew what she was talking about...) but I said, "No..." So she continued to tell me all about this quarterback and the accusations against him. Then she starts talking about one of the coaches and how long he'd been coaching, and I think she even pulled out some stats...something about the underdogs and the last time the Steelers won......I wasn't listening anymore-I turned to Wayne and asking him where Kristi went and when he had married this NFL trivia expert. I guess I'll root for the Packers according to what my personal broadcaster recommended.
Here's our route. The usual Sunday morning route.
The run was great today. It was in the 50s, sunny, and warm. Both Caribia and Cheyenne came along because we ran from the house and not around the lake. We had to stop a couple times to refill my water bottle because the pups drank so much!
Chris joined us for the Club Macca visit again today. He did the treadmill and then some monster weights. It was really hot and stuffy in the gym until Wayne opened the door-then a beautiful breeze blew in and cooled it off. It's like the perfect Spring day out there today.
Ok, enough about us. Now I get to talk about my amazing niece! Abby is an incredible swimmer! She swims with a local club, more advanced than the YMCA. Her best 50-yard freestyle time is 39:22 seconds!!!!!! My fastest 50 yard time is 56 seconds!
And Aidan, my nephew, swims too. He just got a really cool pair of "jammers" to swim in. Here are some photos.
I love Abby's pink cap. I wonder if she chose pink because it's her Aunt Mary's favorite color! Heehee! And just because they're all so darn cute, here are a couple more photos of Abby, Aidan, and Jamie.
I tried to add a video of one of Abby's swim meets, but it wouldn't upload properly. It's the coolest thing. She dives in off the block, swims the length, does a flip turn, and swims back for third place! I've never been able to do a flip turn in my whole life!!!!! I wonder if I can hire Abby to be my personal swim coach!
Ok, time for a little Super Bowl action.
TTFN,
M :)
