39 in 39

Today's workout:
Bike-165 minutes (39 miles)
Run-18 minutes
Swim-30 minutes

It was colder than 39 degrees when we started the ride, and it was only in the 40s when we ended, so we're gonna average about 39 degrees for our 39 miles. We all dressed well enough that we were almost too hot! The wind didn't pick up until the last 7 or so miles, but I planned an in-town route, so the winds weren't too crazy. Here's the route.

The most exciting and unusual thing about the ride today was the ice! Because the streets were covered with snow and ice yesterday morning, and we didn't get above 37 yesterday, any part of the road that didn't see the sun yesterday afternoon, was still icy. It's not every day in Austin that you have to look out for ice! Luckily we managed to navigate around most of it without any problems.

After the ride we ran 1.8 miles around the neighborhood. Chris and the pups joined us. It was warm by that time-I think it was only in the 50s, but the sun shone bright all day and really warmed everything up!

Then it was off to the pool. The pool room was nice and warm today and the water felt extra warm. Maybe it's just because I was pretty cold still. Even though I warmed up on the run, I still felt a little chill. It's just been so cold all week!

One of Chris's friends from high school and his friend's brother are going to the Superbowl, but they flew into Austin, so we took them to Java for lunch before they drove up to Dallas. It was fun to hear stories about how Chris thought he was being abducted by aliens on a road trip once. And he had been perfectly sober at the time! Hahahaha!

After Java it was time for an ice bath. I wasn't sore today, but I want to get in the habit of doing ice baths on the weekends for injury prevention. These bones aren't getting any younger. It was the coldest ice bath to date. I showered at the gym, so the tub wasn't warm when I got in it. And because our house has basically non-existent insulation, the cold water is about the same temperature as outside. I had to wear a wooly hat and gloves today. Then Chris dumped the ice in. I've decided that an ice bath is really a two-person endeavor. Once the cold water is filled in up to my belly, I don't want to move the water around by sitting up to turn it off. So Chris shuts off the water and adds the ice for me. That way I can just sit and shiver and concentrate on not passing out. I got out of the tub half an hour ago and my toes are still frozen.
Nice, Chris just rearranged Caribia and Cheyenne so they're lying on top of my feet. That'll heat 'em up in no time!

Cozy!

Chris is going to pick up a redbox video. Hopefully my toes will warm up in time for the run tomorrow.
G'night!
M :)
