Swim 60 minutes
So to put this training into perspective, when we trained for the Half-Ironman, the swimming workouts started with 20-30 minutes of swimming and worked up to 50-60 minutes over the course of 5 months. This Full-Ironman training starts with 60 minutes!!!!!! I must say that I prefer swimming to minutes rather than laps. My mind can wander and the time seems to go by more quickly. All-in-all the swim went pretty well. I was more nervous than I needed to be. Each time I turned around at the end of the pool, I could see my cozy Hawaii Wedding Towel, the official training towel of the 2011 Ironman, waiting for me on the bench next to my flipflops. A reminder that in a short while I would be wrapped up in coziness. I think the thing I hate most about swimming is how cold I get. I'm cold from the time I change into my swimsuit, all throughout the swim, until I change, drive home, take a hot shower, turn up the heat, and get under a blanket. I don't mind swimming so much when it's 100 degrees outside!
The swimming itself was good-I can tell that my arms and shoulders will be sore. I had some technically difficulties with my goggles at first. Water kept leaking in the right eye. I had to stop every few laps to empty it out. Eventually the suction kicked in and the rest of the swim went by smoothly. During my swim, I started thinking....I've read and heard a lot about gastrointestinal distress on the bike and run parts of the race, but I thought....what about GI Distress on the swim? That could be a nightmare!!!! I mean, with a swimsuit and wetsuit on? My goodness, that could be quite a mess! I'm going to have to keep an eye on that possibility throughout the swim training! I'm going to have to figure out how to turn at each end of the pool. I usually put my hand out to stop, turn around, and then kick off. My wrist started to hurt towards the end. I started to use the other wrist and turn the other way, which helped a little.
With just a few minutes left of my swim, my biggest supporter stopped by the pool...Chris! My wonderful hubbie! He joined the gym this year too, so we can both workout there now! It was so motivating to see him there!
When my swim was over I hopped out of the pool....only to discover that I had a bad case of SSS. That stands for Sagging Swimsuit Syndrome!!! Heehee! My swimsuit is so old that the outside layer of it is really big and baggy!!! It was hanging down almost to my knees! The drag time on my swim must have slowed me down big time!!! Hahahaha!!!!
So now I'm all cozied up on the couch with the pups, my tummy is full of Julio's Tex Mex. I forgot how hungry I get from swimming! Tomorrow is our first bike trainer workout. I tried to put together Kristi's trainer tonight, but I couldn't quite figure it out.
I checked in with Bonnie-she and Todd are in Disney World this week-so they ran today. They say it's pretty chilly there! I'm still waiting for Kristi and Wayne's swimming report. They were going to swim outside at their apartment pool. I hope it wasn't too cold!
That's all for tonight!
M :)
